The Commander's commandments

Will not be attached to anyone or anything because that is weakness and can be exploited.
Forget about good time and bad time for doing something - now is the good time, the best time, the only time to for action.
Don't do anything, doing means intent and intent means full knowledge, intentions are a strain on the brain - let the actions flow naturally, based on forces working
Don't dwell on successes or failures, that is time away from actions.
Don't give in to sadness, that depresses and causes loss of strength of purpose. Don't give in to happiness, that causes the guard to be let down.
Skill is best when the mind is at peace, either of the duals will cause the balance to be disturbed. Sadness will reduce the energy, anger will cause too much energy. Remember when you were training, you showed the best skill, why don't you reach that level now - because you let emotions interfere with your skill - fear, anger, elation - all of the distract from skill.
The Good and Evil Commander are very similar - strong, skilled. The evil is cold in cruelty, the good is cold because the battle is not yet over.

Will and Love

Will and Love are exact opposite of each other - naturewise and phonetically - maybe the great designers of languages did it on purpose. You could do things using will power or out of love. Will is definitely related to end results - action has to be done because the end result demands it. Love, of course, has no reason, its love itself. Love is enjoying and being in the current moment, absorbed in doing. In Telugu Vala means a net - like a net to catch fish. I find it not surprising that Vala and Will are phonetically so close. Will traps us into stuff in which our heart is not there - it ego driven which overrides the concerns of the heart.

Research - Don't climb other people's mountains

Research starts in a small way, from someone's God-given curiosity and creativity. Initially no value is seen or perceived, so the people looking for value ignore it. The research starts to grow like a crystal or coral, the curious, peaceful and playful enjoying the play and adding their own plays, observations and creativity. After some time the research grows like a hill to a point where its value is visible to the local people, then they join in. The occasional traveller wanders to that place and is wonderstruck at this growing hill and he joins in its growth and takes the word back. The hill grows to be a huge mountain and its visible now across the globe. Now, everyone wants to add to the top of the mountain because there is so much glamour and fame associated now with the mountain. But to contribute to its growth one has to climb this entire mountain, which is an entirely arduous task - no fun, but labour, sacrifice. Only people who are familiar with the ways of the mountain raise their children to find their way about the mountain - remaining are pathetic losers bound by hope.
If you want to enjoy research follow your heart, create your own play - don't try to climb other people's mountains.

The Detached Commander

The Commander knows that the warriors he so dearly loves might die, will die in battle, but he will have very little time to grieve, there is very little to grieve, this was the honour that they dearly cherished, to fight alongside him, for that nod of appreciation, for being honored by him after death. This was what they were born for. He cannot afford to let his heart break, he has to be detached, because the lives for which these lives were given up willingly still need protection, till the battle is over. There is no time to react, good news may not last long, could be a trap, loss of men, heroes, has to be dealt with, do whatever needs to be done, comfort their near ones, honor them, bury them, but not give in to emotion.

God of Action

I was kind of jokingly trying to explain to Chetan and Akshay that we need to do, act - we will get a million ideas. There is this God of action, he only takes our actions that we offer him, we need to offer him the best of our actions. Every day plan on offering the choicest of your completed perfect actions to him who is most benevolent, kind and will free us. This was from Gita of course - Lord Krishna says he is the God of sacrifices - all sacrifices go to him. But the word sacrifice is a little daunting - Vishnu offered his eye to Shiva when he was one short of 100 lotuses, Kanappa cut out and offered both his eyes to Shivalinga, Shakuni's brothers gave up their share of food for Shakuni to survive and they all died except Shakuni - his unfailing dice were made from their bones, a brahmin family give up their food to a guest just when they are about to eat and die of starvation. We are up against such phenomenal sacrifices. But I think if we offer actions from our daily activity, he will accept them, if the action is done with skill, devotion, keeping in mind that it is worth offering.

Faith

Even if God does not exist, faith itself could create the same magic that God does. A tree lives happily with the faith that nobody will cut it till it actually gets cut - years of happy life and minutes of pain. Faith needs innocence - all animals have it - the betrayal is in the mind of the destroyer. Faith is settling down with your friend, lover, God and believing in them, its the source of joy, happiness and peace. Faith removes fear.

Love is supreme

Well, hopefully this is my own private journal of my musings - I can record the flow of thoughts as they happen. These days the mind has been on this hugely powerful, mysterious and beautiful thing called love. It is probably difficult to convey through words, more of a realization. That you are with this person you love and the world and time ceases to exist, that there is no fear. Death is the ultimate test of love and usually loses, not in terms of taking life but destroying love itself. That one prefers death to separation from the loved one. That one wilts in pain and suffering on separation, food loses taste, sleep doesn't come, that a part of your soul has been separated from you. How does it happen ? Ordinary frail, innocent people reaching a state that even Gods dream of but are unable to achieve. For it is not of valour, or power, or knowledge - these three are still of the I, love is beyond I - Nistraigunyai Shivaya Namaha - is that what this phrase means in Siva Mahimnaha stotra ? You are immersed in the bliss of love or the pain of deprivation of love, there is no thought for the I - therefore love is of necessity beyond I. How many people can say they have conquered I ? Love frees you from I, consequently you are free from all dualities, because the I is the source of all dualities. For love, the body does not exist or matter. It doesn't hate or desire anyone.
The most supreme love is the love between and Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. The couple that is intensely in love with each must be a fragment broken off from this Supreme Couple. Love is the supreme goal. Forgive me Lord if I write this so poorly. Even the Lord of Lords must have cried when Sati burned herself up, even if knew that it was inevitable, even if he was the master of detachment. First the mad anger in which all of Daksha and his Yagna were utterly destroyed - but it doesn't bring back Sati. And then alone atop the cold peaks of Himalaya - no Sati, the joy and light of the entire universe gone. Hot tears of anger and grief streaming down, slowly over thousands of years it turns to an uneasy meditation going deeper and deeper inward, the whole universe enveloped in a cold, lonely envelope.
